Reports: General outpatient reports are issued in Chinese. International department reports may also default to Chinese, but you can typically request an English version. Confirm availability and turnaround time when taking your tests.
Do not fast, stop medication or change fluid intake unless the hospital or treating clinician has given instructions for your specific test.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Before You Visit
Short answers to the practical questions international patients often ask when planning a visit.
How can I book an appointment at Renji Hospital’s East Campus from overseas?
First-time users need a Chinese mobile number to register a hospital account before using its online booking service. If you do not have one, call +86 21 6838 3210 for general outpatient or international appointments.
International online booking is available through the 国际医疗部 section of the hospital’s WeChat service account, “上海仁济医院就医服务号”. The booking interface is available in English. New slots open daily at 07:30 China time, up to 14 days ahead. International enquiries can also be sent to renji_clinic@renji.com.
What should foreign passport holders bring, and where should they register?
Bring your original passport, appointment confirmation, previous medical records and imaging, and a current medication list. For general outpatient registration, use a staffed counter. For international visits, report to reception at the Health Management Center, 1F, 33 Beiyuan Road, with your passport, visa copy and booking confirmation. Bring your insurance card if using insurance.
Do I need to check in after registering for a general outpatient appointment?
After online or self-service registration and payment, check in at the clinic before waiting for your number. If you register at a staffed counter, no separate check-in is required. Booking an appointment alone does not complete the arrival process.
What should I confirm about payment and insurance before my visit?
Confirm the accepted payment methods for your booked clinic, especially if you plan to use a foreign-issued Visa or Mastercard. The international department accepts self-pay patients and offers direct billing for selected insurance plans. Check your coverage and any authorisation requirements beforehand. For international insurance and service enquiries, call +86 21 6838 3408, Monday–Saturday, 08:00–17:00 China time.
Can I get English medical reports and copies of my imaging?
General outpatient clinics usually do not issue English reports. The international department can generally provide them on request; ask when booking and confirm the turnaround time and any fees. For CT or MRI imaging, ask specifically about obtaining the original DICOM files, including the request and collection process. A written imaging report is separate from the image files.
USE OFFICIAL CHANNELS
Avoid unsolicited “fast-track” offers
Do not pay people approaching you near the hospital for faster tests, admission or private referrals. Verify instructions at an official hospital counter or through your confirmed coordinator.
Information & Review Policy
Hospital addresses, entrances, registration procedures, transport arrangements and payment systems may change. MedBridgeNZ reviews these guides periodically, but patients should confirm appointment-specific instructions directly with the hospital before travelling. This guide provides general administrative and travel information, not medical advice.
