Services for International Patients

  • International Medical Services

    • Beijing Friendship Hospital offers comprehensive medical services, including dedicated international medical cooperation projects and an International Medical Center. This center, located at the West Campus (Xicheng院区), provides English-speaking doctors and nurses to facilitate communication for international patients. For complex cases, translation services may be available.

    • The hospital operates a 24/7 Emergency Care service at its main emergency center, prioritizing critical cases.

    • Specialized clinics within the International Medical Center focus on key areas, including Gastroenterology, Respiratory Medicine, and Tropical Diseases.

    • For your convenience, the hospital supports direct billing for international commercial insurance providers, such as Bupa and Allianz. It is advisable to confirm your eligibility with your insurance provider in advance.

  • Appointment Methods

    • WeChat/APP: Appointments can be conveniently booked via the "北京友谊医院" (Beijing Friendship Hospital) WeChat Official Account or their mobile application. To use this service, select "国际医疗" (International Department), register with your passport details, and complete payment using a credit card, Alipay, or WeChat Pay. New appointment slots are typically released daily at 3:00 PM for the 15th day out. The hospital's WeChat account (BFH1952) also provides a detailed "online companion diagnosis service" which allows patients to book appointments, check in, view real-time waiting lines, change examination times, and retrieve old reports.

    • Telephone: You can book appointments by calling the dedicated lines for the International Department: (+8610) 63137608 for the West Campus (Xicheng院区) or (+8610) 80838436 for the Tongzhou Campus. Booking by phone for the VIP section is generally easier than for the main section.

    • On-site: Self-service kiosks located in the International Medical Center accept passports or APP QR codes for on-site appointments. While traditionally possible to walk in, during the COVID-19 pandemic, most public hospitals in Beijing, including Beijing Friendship Hospital, require advance appointments.

  • Required Documents

    • When visiting the hospital, please ensure you bring your original passport along with a copy of your visa.

    • It is highly recommended to have your medical records translated into English or Chinese for smoother consultation.

    • If you plan to use direct billing, remember to bring your insurance card.

  • Fees & Payment

    • Self-Pay: Fees for self-paying patients in the International Medical Center (VIP ward) are generally higher than standard outpatient fees. For example, consultations may range from ¥300-800, and inpatient bed fees from ¥800-1,500 per night. The consultation fees in the VIP ward specifically range from RMB 150 to 300. These fees are comparable to those at international hospitals.

    • Insurance Direct Billing: While public hospitals typically require upfront payment for all services and medication, and do not accept direct billing from standard private medical insurance companies (local Chinese use state social insurance), the VIP wards, including Beijing Friendship Hospital's, do cooperate with some private medical insurance companies for direct billing. You should confirm your policy's eligibility directly with your insurance provider and the hospital's International Department.

  • Additional Services & Notes

    • VIP Services: The International Department (VIP ward) provides enhanced personal care, offering private consultations and significantly shorter wait times. Beijing Friendship Hospital's VIP section is notably large, with its own independent buildings, allowing most tests and procedures to be conducted within this specialized section without needing to visit the more crowded main hospital. Private rooms can also be requested for hospitalization within these VIP wards. Foreigners have the option to choose between the main section of the hospital or the VIP section.

    • Accessing Reports: You can conveniently access your bilingual medical reports via self-service terminals or online platforms. The hospital's WeChat service account allows for comprehensive inquiries, including access to laboratory test results, imaging data (which can be freely adjusted for size and position), and electronic medical records.

    • Online Companion Diagnosis Service: The hospital has launched an "online companion diagnosis service" through its WeChat account to make hospital visits easier and more efficient. This service helps patients consolidate appointments for different tests on the same day, reducing the need for multiple trips. It also provides an in-hospital floor navigation service to help patients quickly find consultation and examination rooms. An "online inquiry" feature offers automated replies and live customer service during weekdays (8:00-17:00).
