Personal Biography
Dr. Songwen Chen is an Associate Chief Physician and M.D. in the Department of Cardiology at Shanghai General Hospital. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the Krannert Heart Center in the USA. Dr. Chen is recognized as a Shanghai "Pujiang Talent" and a "Yiyuan New Star" Young Medical Talent. He serves as an instructor and proctor certified by the International Heart Rhythm Society (HRS). Dr. Chen has been dedicated to the clinical and research aspects of cardiovascular medicine, particularly in the intervention and treatment of arrhythmias, since 2005.
He is a key operator for cardiac pacing and electrophysiology interventions at his hospital and serves as the secretary of its Atrial Fibrillation Center. He actively assists 129 hospitals across 19 provinces in China with advanced electrophysiology procedures. He has contributed as a writing group member for several domestic and international guidelines and expert consensus papers on arrhythmia management, including the Chinese Atrial Fibrillation Guidelines 2022.

Areas of Expertise
-
Catheter Ablation: Performing advanced ablation procedures (including radiofrequency, cryo, and pulsed-field ablation) for various tachyarrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation (AFib), ventricular tachycardia (VT), atrial tachycardia, supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), premature ventricular contractions (PVCs), and premature atrial contractions (PACs). Highly proficient in zero-radiation ablation techniques.
-
Device Implantation: Certified as a National Health Commission intervention instructor for pacemaker implantation. Experienced in implanting all types of devices, including traditional pacemakers (for sick sinus syndrome, AV block), Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) for heart failure, Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillators (ICD, including subcutaneous ICD) for malignant arrhythmias, leadless pacemakers, and His-Purkinje system pacing (physiological pacing).
-
Stroke Prevention in AFib: Manages anticoagulation therapy and performs Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion (LAAO) procedures.
-
Cardiomyopathy & Heart Failure: Treatment of dilated cardiomyopathy, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (including septal radiofrequency ablation for obstructive HOCM), and heart failure.
