Reports: General outpatient reports are issued in Chinese. International department reports may also default to Chinese, but you can typically request an English version. Confirm availability and turnaround time when taking your tests.
Do not fast, stop medication or change fluid intake unless the hospital or treating clinician has given instructions for your specific test.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Before You Visit
Short answers to the practical questions international patients often ask when planning a visit.
How do I book Zhongshan Hospital’s International Medical Center?
Use the hospital’s official WeChat or app and select “国际医疗部” (International Medical Department). You can also contact the centre directly or ask your insurer to help arrange an appointment. Once confirmed, report to Building 21, 6–7F, in the West Campus with your passport and booking confirmation.
Can I use insurance direct billing at the International Medical Center?
Direct billing requires confirmation and approval from both your insurer and the hospital. Arrange this before your visit and check which services are covered. Having an insurance card does not automatically mean that every charge will be paid directly; co-payments or uncovered charges may still be payable.
Do advanced specialist clinics require self-service check-in?
No. For Advanced Specialist Clinics (高级专家门诊), complete registration and payment, then wait at the clinic shown on your booking. These clinics are usually in Building 15, with some Saturday appointments in Building 20. Check your confirmation for the correct building.
How do I walk between the East and West campuses?
The Xuhui Main Campus has East and West areas connected by sheltered second-floor corridors. Access the corridors from 2F of connected buildings and follow the signs to your destination. Ground-level routes are also available. Allow about 15 minutes when crossing between the two areas, depending on your starting point and destination.
Can foreign passport holders book general outpatient appointments online?
Some online channels may not support first-time passport registration or overseas SMS verification. Try setup before travelling, using your own passport details. If it fails, contact the hospital or visit the 1F Convenience Service Center in either outpatient building: Building 20 in the West Campus or Building 16 in the East Campus.
USE OFFICIAL CHANNELS
Avoid unsolicited “fast-track” offers
Do not pay people approaching you near the hospital for faster tests, admission or private referrals. Verify instructions at an official hospital counter or through your confirmed coordinator.
Information & Review Policy
Hospital addresses, entrances, registration procedures, transport arrangements and payment systems may change. MedBridgeNZ reviews these guides periodically, but patients should confirm appointment-specific instructions directly with the hospital before travelling. This guide provides general administrative and travel information, not medical advice.
