On the day — hospital preparation notes

  • The hospital sheet advises women planning pregnancy within 3 months, pregnant women and breastfeeding women against radiological tests such as chest X-ray and mammography.
  • The sheet advises taking usual morning medication after blood collection and checking special medication instructions with the prescribing doctor beforehand.
  • For transabdominal gynaecological ultrasound or bladder/prostate ultrasound, drink 5–6 cups of water (about 200–300 ml per cup) and hold urine so the bladder is full.
  • A gynaecological specimen collection may cause slight bleeding; bring sanitary pads or pantyliners.
  • For radiological examinations, avoid underwire bras and metal jewellery, including earrings and necklaces.
  • For CT or MRI, wear comfortable, loose clothing; avoid dresses, braces/suspenders and clothing containing silver ions, such as some sports leggings.
