Planning a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) visit to Sanya raises a practical question: what should you book before you know whether you’ll need further appointments? Start with the first consultation—where you’ll be seen, how you’ll communicate and what it costs—then check that your entry route fits.
Your budget for a TCM wellness visit to Sanya also depends on why you are travelling. If the consultation fits into an existing holiday, work out the extra clinic, language and transport costs, along with any changes to your stay. For a trip built around care, include the whole journey.

What to Confirm Before Booking a TCM Wellness Visit to Sanya
A written reply should give you the clinic, date and address, what the consultation includes, its price and the language arrangement. If the reply only confirms a room, go back to the booking team for the clinical details.
Once the first appointment is clear, you can compare travel around it, taking entry requirements and individual travel advice into account. Further services can stay provisional while you discuss them with the clinician. Essential interpretation or personal assistance needs to be arranged before you pay for bookings that depend on it.
Sanya TCM Hospital’s published booking process uses real-name registration and an electronic health card; ask which route applies to your passport.[1] For language support, confirm who will interpret if needed and what is included.
If you are travelling because of an existing condition, discuss the trip with your usual clinician and prepare the records requested by the receiving clinic.[2]
Compare Quotes for the Same Visit
A consultation quote and a stay with accommodation may cover very different services. Separate the consultation fee from the room, language support and other items before comparing the totals.
Put the quotes on the same dates, occupancy and support requirements:
Cost area | What the quote should make clear |
First consultation | Appointment type, language support and any written summary included |
Further care | Confirmed items and any proposed tests, medicines or sessions awaiting assessment |
Interpretation and records | Hourly or per-visit fees, minimum time, waiting and document translation |
Accommodation and meals | Dates, occupancy, included meals and necessary room features |
Personal assistance or nursing | Tasks, responsible provider and hours, if available |
Local transport | Airport transfers, each clinic return trip, vehicle needs and waiting |
Flights and entry paperwork | Actual itinerary, fare conditions and any applicable application fees |
Coordination | Agreed administrative work and third-party charges |
Changes and cancellations | Deposits, unused services and charges under each provider’s terms |
For interpretation, compare the hourly rate and minimum booking with what the per-visit fee includes, especially waiting time. Either arrangement needs to be priced for the support you expect to use.
Use the quotes to separate priced items, estimates and items awaiting a price. Note the visits, hours or nights assumed for each estimate, and count included services once.
Read the Change Terms Before Paying a Deposit
Before paying, find out how deposits and unused services are handled if you stop after the consultation. Check the quote’s currency, validity and payment recipient, along with the separate hotel and flight cancellation terms. Our full-trip budget guide offers a broader checklist; its provider prices relate to health screening.
How Long Do You Need to Be in Sanya?
Plan the stay around the appointments where you need to attend in person. If further care is proposed, the clinician can explain the sessions, intervals and review arrangements.
Before extending a hotel booking to wait for records, ask whether the clinic needs to see you again or can send documents after you leave. If a review is offered remotely, agree on its timing and language support.
If your return date is fixed, tell the clinical team before agreeing to further appointments. They can explain which parts of the proposed plan need your presence and how follow-up could be arranged. Those attendance dates also help you price transport and choose accommodation.
Choose a Place to Stay Around Your Appointments
Before locking in a room, look at the journey from that property to your appointment address.
The city’s medical care guide lists Sanya TCM Hospital at 106 Fenghuang Road.[3] Haitang Bay, where Atlantis Sanya is located, is a coastal resort area east of Sanya’s downtown.[4,9] That geographical context matters when fitting a clinic visit into a resort holiday. Use your confirmed consultation address when checking the actual route.
For a single consultation, compare making the return journey from your existing resort with the cost and effort of changing hotels. If several visits are agreed, add up all the return trips and any separately charged travel or waiting time for an interpreter or companion.
Compare hotels over the same dates, with the same number of guests and support needs. Include the cost and inconvenience of moving if you are considering splitting the stay. You may value being by the beach between appointments; that preference belongs in the decision alongside the route and total cost.
If you are still deciding what kind of setting you want, our guide to hospital services, resorts and TCM experiences in Sanya explains the options.
When More Help Is Needed Than a Room and an Interpreter
Sanya TCM Hospital’s associated sanatorium lists clinical services and guest accommodation.[5] For any accommodation you consider, describe the help you need: step-free access, space beside the bed, help with daily activities, overnight assistance or clinical nursing.
The accommodation provider should explain who would provide that help, during which hours and at what cost. If a room works but essential assistance is unavailable, establish whether a separate service can be arranged. A relative who accompanies you and an interpreter attending a consultation have different roles from a nurse.
Build each day around the appointments actually confirmed, with time for travel and your own needs. Put optional activities into the remaining space, keeping them adjustable while later bookings are undecided.
MedBridgeNZ can help gather appointment, language and cost details from the relevant providers and bring them into one practical itinerary.

Check the Entry Route Before Booking Connections
As checked on 22 October 2026, China’s National Immigration Administration lists a Hainan-specific visa-free policy for ordinary passport holders from 61 countries. It permits stays of up to 30 days for listed short-term purposes, including medical treatment. Travel under this policy is limited to Hainan Province, with entry and exit through its open ports.[6]
That geographical limit matters when booking flights. If your itinerary includes a connection through a mainland city outside Hainan or a later visit to Shanghai, check which entry arrangement covers the complete route. The Hainan regional policy alone does not authorise onward travel to Shanghai.
Use the official policy and country list, then confirm the arrangement applicable to your passport, purpose and itinerary. Another exemption or visa may apply; assess that separately before paying for the route.
Ask Your Insurer About the Planned Visit
Describe the actual consultation or programme when asking about cover. The CDC Yellow Book distinguishes travel disruption, travel health and medical evacuation insurance, with different functions and conditions.[7]
Ask separately about:
the planned consultation and any proposed treatment;
complications and pre-existing conditions;
unrelated medical emergencies during the trip; and
cancellation or changes affecting travel bookings.
If the reply mentions emergency medical cover, check whether it also addresses the care you plan to receive. Where preauthorisation is required, establish which services are approved and what limits apply.
The hospital can explain which invoices and records it provides. Your insurer can explain whether the planned services are covered, what you would pay directly and what a claim would require. Keep its written reply with your bookings.
Know What You Will Take Home—and What Can Follow
Your doctor at home may need to know what happened during the visit. The CDC recommends obtaining overseas medical records in English and sharing them with subsequent healthcare professionals.[2]
Before leaving, work through the agreed documents:
the consultation record, with the provider, clinician and date;
records of any examinations or treatment completed;
prescriptions and ingredient or product details, where relevant; and
the clinical team’s instructions and contact arrangements for further questions.
“English records” could mean a summary, hospital-issued English documents or a translation of the Chinese original. Agree on what you’ll receive and how it will be delivered. If only a summary is offered, your receiving clinician can say whether the underlying records are also needed. Keep originals and translations together.
If something is still pending as your flight approaches, find out what you are waiting for. The clinic may be preparing documents it can send later, or the clinical team may want to see you again. Ask whether further attendance is needed before deciding to change your flight or extend the hotel.
If scans form part of your visit, our English medical reports and DICOM guide covers the separate questions about written reports and image files.
For any herbal products you intend to carry home, check your destination’s requirements and ask the prescriber for the relevant product and prescription details.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long should I stay in Sanya for a TCM consultation?
Plan around the confirmed consultation and any further visits that require you to attend in person. Allow for arrival and transport, and discuss individual travel needs with your clinician. If documents will follow later, establish whether you can receive them after departure.
Do I need a seven-day TCM treatment package?
Ask whether you can book the initial consultation separately. If further care is proposed, discuss its purpose, schedule and cost with the clinician, then check how unused services and deposits are handled if you decide not to continue.
How can I compare Sanya TCM wellness quotes?
Match the dates, consultation scope, occupancy and required support. Read the charging units, minimum bookings and inclusions, then list any estimated or unpriced items separately. For each estimate, note the assumed visits, hours or nights so you can see how a change would affect the total.
Can I visit Shanghai after Sanya under Hainan’s visa-free policy?
The Hainan regional exemption alone limits travel to Hainan Province. A Shanghai visit requires an entry arrangement covering that route. Check current rules for your passport and complete itinerary before booking.[6]
Will travel insurance cover a planned TCM wellness visit to Sanya?
Ask the insurer about the planned services and travel purpose before paying. Establish the position on planned care, related complications, existing conditions and changes to bookings. The answer depends on the policy and any required authorisation.[7]
