Can You Add a TCM Consultation to a Health Checkup in China?
By MedBridgeNZ | Medical concierge and logistics coordinationEvidence last checked: 14 October 2026
Yes—you may be able to add a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) consultation to a health checkup in China. Some packages offer it as an included choice; for others, you will need to ask about a separate appointment. [1, 2]
If you are already planning the trip, the next question is when to fit it in. A conversation about existing concerns or previous records has different timing needs from a consultation about new screening results.
Both services may be available through one provider, or you can explore a separate clinic. In either case, the relevant records need to reach the TCM doctor. [6, 7]
Is a TCM Consultation Included in Your Health Checkup?
Parkway’s Elite Health Screening and Parent Care Health Screening – Cardiovascular Health packages offer one choice from:
Physiotherapy rehabilitation assessment
Dermatology consultation
Dental consultation
TCM consultation
Advance booking is required, and you cannot choose a particular doctor under this package option. [1, 2]
Choosing dental uses that included choice. A switch to TCM or an additional consultation needs confirmation, including any extra fee.
For Basic, Standard and Advanced, Parkway’s published comparison does not list this TCM choice. A separate appointment and its cost need to be checked with the provider. [11]
You can compare the listed tests and consultation choices across all five options in our Parkway health screening package comparison.
Report interpretation is listed separately from TCM in the Elite and Parent Care packages. Parkway’s health management service describes a physician-led review arranged by a case manager. [1, 2, 12]

Timing Your TCM Consultation Around the Checkup
For an existing concern, your medical history and previous reports are the starting point. If you want new checkup findings considered, the consultation needs to be planned around when the relevant results will be ready.
Completing the tests, receiving individual results and receiving the final screening report are separate stages. Two appointments on the same date can still leave reports pending.
A same-day plan also depends on appointment availability, locations, and any preparation or recovery requirements from the checkup. Acupuncture or medicines are not automatically included in a consultation; they depend on the clinician’s assessment, with availability and any additional fees clarified separately.
Traditional assessment may include pulse-taking. [3] It does not replace clinically indicated tests, and persistent symptoms still need medical assessment even when screening results are normal. [4, 5]

If reports will arrive after you leave China, the arrangements should cover their delivery and whether a later clinical review is available.
One question brings the timing details together:
Which reports does the TCM doctor need, which will be ready for my appointment, and how will outstanding results be handled?
For a short stay, our one-day health screening timeline in Shanghai explains what may happen during the visit and what can continue afterwards.
Choosing Where to Have the Consultation
Shanghai provides useful examples of how the services may fit together. Alongside Parkway’s package option, there are providers offering screening and TCM through different services.
Jiahui Health has a Health Management Center offering screening and report review, as well as a separate TCM service. [6, 7]
Longhua Hospital’s Xuhui preventive care department brings together medical checkups, TCM constitution assessment and TCM interventions in its published service model. Current appointment, language and document arrangements need to be confirmed for your visit. [8]
At either provider, a booking enquiry can cover both services, your preferred dates and the language support you need.
If you are still choosing a screening provider, our health checkup packages in China page brings together the listed options from several institutions.
When the Visits Are at Different Clinics
The receiving clinic can specify which reports it needs, whether translations are required and how to submit them. Identifying pending results at this stage makes clear what the doctor will have for the appointment.
That handover matters within one organisation too. A report held by the screening service needs to be accessible to the TCM doctor. Including record transfer in the booking arrangements helps avoid discovering a missing document during the consultation.
A Booking Checklist You Can Share With the Clinic or Concierge Team
Whether you book directly or use a concierge service, a short written summary keeps the appointments, language arrangements and records together. MedBridgeNZ can help coordinate these details with the provider. [13]
Detail | What the booking summary should show |
Package and TCM option | Package name; TCM as the selected choice, an extra or a separate appointment. |
Appointment details | Date, time, clinic or hospital, campus and department for each visit. |
Consultation language | The doctor’s language, any interpreter arrangement and its fee. |
Reports | Requested records, expected release dates and how they will reach the doctor. |
Scope and fees | What the consultation includes and any services quoted separately. |
Written record | Whether a note or summary is offered, its language and how to obtain it. |
Outstanding results | Delivery method, clinical contact and any later review arrangements. |
Language is worth a closer look. An English-speaking doctor, an interpreter and an English written medical record are three separate arrangements. Jiahui lists some TCM physicians as English-speaking, but that does not establish the language of their written notes. [7]
A consultation in English may still leave you needing a translated record for your doctor at home. The summary should make clear what the clinic will provide and whether translation needs arranging separately.
Anything still awaiting an answer can be marked as pending, with the responsible contact beside it. The aim is to keep the details in one place so you, the clinic and anyone coordinating the visit can work from the same information.
What to Bring—and What to Keep Afterwards
A short list of your main questions, relevant previous reports and any new results already available gives the consultation a starting point. For identification, follow the instructions for each appointment; Parkway’s centre brochure lists valid identification, including a passport, among the documents to bring on examination day. [12]
Include prescription medicines, over-the-counter products and supplements, with doses, plus any allergies. Some herbs and medicines can interact, so the complete list should be shared with your healthcare providers. [9]
Before leaving, establish which records the clinic can provide:
Your screening reports
A TCM consultation note or summary
Written advice and follow-up instructions
Any prescription issued, with ingredient or product details
Keep the originals alongside any translations. For documents still being prepared, record the delivery method and contact person. Obtaining medical records can help support care after you return home. [10]
If your checkup includes imaging, our English medical reports and DICOM checklist covers the written reports and original scan files to request.
For a review after your trip, using screening results with your doctor at home explains how to prepare the records for that conversation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a TCM consultation included in a standard health checkup in China?
It depends on the package: Parkway’s Elite and Parent Care offer TCM as one of four choices, with advance booking required. Its Basic, Standard and Advanced comparison does not list that option, so a separate consultation and its cost need confirmation. [1, 2, 11]
Can I add TCM if I have already chosen another consultation in the package?
Changing your selection or adding a separate visit requires confirmation from the provider, including any extra cost. The “choose one of four” package entry covers one choice. [1, 2]
Can I arrange the health checkup and TCM consultation through the same provider?
Some providers offer both services, including Jiahui Health in Shanghai. Each appointment’s location, booking and access to your reports still need arranging. [6, 7]
Can I have acupuncture on the same day as the health checkup?
It depends on clinical suitability, treatment availability and any preparation or recovery requirements from the checkup. A consultation booking does not automatically include acupuncture; its booking and fees need separate clarification.
Will the TCM doctor be able to review my final checkup report on the same day?
Only if the required reports are ready and the doctor has agreed to review them. Any pending results need a delivery and review plan.
How MedBridgeNZ Can Help With the Arrangements
MedBridgeNZ is a medical tourism concierge service helping international clients arrange medical visits in China. We can coordinate hospital or specialist enquiries, appointments, record organisation and translation, language support, and practical arrangements such as registration, transport and accommodation.
We can also help request provider-issued records and coordinate further communication with the treating clinician, including a virtual follow-up where the hospital offers one. Clinical assessment, treatment decisions and interpretation of results remain with the medical team; MedBridgeNZ does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. [13]
Tell us your preferred provider or city, travel dates, language needs and the reports you hope to discuss. We can help check how a TCM consultation could fit around your health checkup.
