Dr. Jian Dong is the Director, Second-level Professor, and Chief Physician of the Department of Orthopedics at Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University. He also serves as a PhD and postdoctoral supervisor, Director of the Spine Tumor Research Institute at Fudan University, and Director of the Spine Tumor Comprehensive Diagnosis and Treatment Center at Zhongshan Hospital. He holds additional appointments as the Director of Orthopedics at Xuhui District Central Hospital, Wusong Central Hospital (Baoshan District), Academic Director of Orthopedics at Minhang District Central Hospital, and Director of Orthopedics at Zhongshan Hospital Xiamen Hospital.
Dr. Dong is proficient in the diagnosis and treatment of various orthopedic diseases. He has repeatedly traveled to the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, and France for advanced studies, academic exchanges, and collaborative surgeries. Upon returning to China, he pioneered numerous high-difficulty surgeries and new techniques.
His professional focuses include: (1) Posterior-approach en bloc resection for primary and secondary spinal tumors, reducing trauma and surgery frequency for patients and improving quality of life; (2) Stepwise minimally invasive treatments for spinal metastatic tumors; (3) Small-incision, microscope-assisted minimally invasive surgery for lumbar disc herniation (3cm incision, ambulation one day post-op, discharge as early as three days); spinal endoscopic minimally invasive discectomy; (4) Interbody fusion for lumbar instability, spinal stenosis, and spondylolisthesis, allowing for ambulation the day after surgery; and (5) Minimally invasive treatment for osteoporotic spinal fractures.
